Best Bookstores: The Galaxy Bookshop, Hardwick, Vermont

Whenever I travel, I love to visit bookstores! This is my hometown favorite.

People who knew my Grandpa Tom are never surprised when they find out how much I love to read. My grandfather died before I was born, but I'm sure we would have been great pals because I've seen his giant library of books. My mom tells me that he could never walk by a bookstore without going in and buying a new book. We have a whole area of our house filled with his purchases.

When Grandpa Tom and my Gummy Ruth moved up to Vermont, they fell in love with the local bookstore- The Galaxy Bookshop. It used to be in a bank building. They changed the teller window to be a drive-up story window! Now, it is in a cozy location on the main street of Hardwick, Vermont.

I love to visit the Galaxy because there are lots of choices. The owners have the best taste in books. They always give me good recommendations and have introduced to me to some of my favorite series like Greenglass House, The Benedict Society, The Crooked Sixpence, and Nevermoor.

You can also go there for great games. They introduced us to an awesome game called Tenzi.

For the last two summers, they hosted a Where's Waldo activity. It was like a giant scavenger hunt around the area. We had to visit local businesses and find a small cut out of Waldo. Some of them were really hard. When we found him, they gave us a stamp for a card. Once it was filled in, we turned it in to win raffle prizes. On the day of the drawing, there was a real person dressed up like Waldo in town and we had to find them. It was so fun.

Finally, it was always fun to go to the Galaxy Bookshop to see the bookstore dog, Boo. Boo died this summer. we will all really miss seeing him.

If you are in northern Vermont, please go visit The Galaxy Bookshop. You are sure to find a treasure.
